The Rock Academy Story

Everyone can be a musician! This belief inspired our founder, Nikolas Vogt, a musician with over 20 years of experience, to create Rock Academy.

After seven years at Google in Europe and California, he decided to share his love of music by founding Rock Academy. Rock Academy was born to ignite a passion for music. We create a fun, supportive environment where kids build confidence by learning from rockstar mentors and experiencing what it’s like to play in a band.

For more, check out the trailer video and founder interview below, or scroll down to read reviews of our parents and students.

Our founder discusses our method at FluxFM Berlin

Our founder, Nikolas, explains the Rock Academy learning method in his own words:
Play in a band from the beginning and experience the joy of making music together
“I remember the magical feeling of playing a song together with another kid for the first time. Even though we were not really good, it was very pure, just the two of us rocking out. This feeling ignited a fire in me for making music that is burning to this day. A true gift and probably the reason why I'm still playing 20 years later.”
Play only songs you like, for developing new skills and staying motivated
“My second guitar teacher asked me what songs I wanted to play and did not focus on teaching scales and notes. Suddenly, I was motivated and enjoyed attending lessons because I learned music I liked and nothing boring that I could not relate to. The theory and technique came naturally because I wanted to be able to play more advanced songs.”
Regular live shows are a fun goal to practice for
“I went deeper down the rabbit hole after getting the chance to perform live. Although it was just a birthday party our little band was very motivated and had a lot of fun working towards this common goal — the actual performance was even more fun. I did not have this chance until three years into my musical journey, some people never have one. We want to change that.”

Rock Academy fosters confidence and motivation in students

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   Rock Academy provides the freedom to explore.

"My son used to attend a traditional music school, but Rock Academy is a different world! He now has the freedom to explore the music he loves with others, which is much more motivating and has led to incredible progress.”
Nathaly, mother of guitar student Alejandro, 12 years old
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   My daughter was never more motivated.

"My daughter is thriving at Rock Academy — she is super motivated by the band rehearsals and group lessons. Their learning method is innovative and the excellent instructors deliver a well-rounded music education in a fun environment."
Britt, mother of vocal student Magnolia, 9 years old
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   The best part is the friends that I made in class.

“I've learned so much since I joined Rock Academy. I improved my technique, my timing, and I'm finally able to jam with others. I've also made some great friends — that's the best part. We are very excited about our first live show.
— Drum student Elias, 11 years old

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get more details about the 'Band & Instrument class', location, and teachers?

Download our 'Band & Instrument Class' brochure below to get a glimpse of the Rock Academy method, teachers, parents, and the location.

Are the programs bilingual? Do the teachers speak English and German?

Yes. To ensure inclusivity, all our programs are bilingual. Our teachers are predominantly fluent in English but possess at least an intermediate plus proficiency in German.

Are all teachers trained musicians and have teaching experience?

Absolutely. All of our teachers are trained professionals with extensive teaching and live experience. We ensure that they are great with kids and serve as positive role models. Additionally, we prioritize providing a safe and supportive environment for our students.

How long does the class subscription last? Can I cancel any time?

Our class subscription renews every four weeks and includes four 90-minute sessions comprising of instrument lessons, band jams, and live shows. It can be canceled anytime before the renewal date. Once a subscription is canceled the student can participate in the remaining class sessions of the subscription period and the subscription will end the day before the next renewal date.

For instance, if a subscription begins on April 22nd, it will renew in four weeks, on May 20th. The subsequent renewal date after that will be June 17th. If the student cancels, for example, on May 22nd there will be three class sessions remaining in their last subscription period and the subscription will end on June 16th.

Unless otherwise stated, promotion codes for subscriptions are only applicable for the first month.  Terms and conditions apply.

Can I pause the subscription? What happens during school holidays?

To accommodate parents' need for flexibility during holidays, every subscription can be optionally "paused" for four weeks within a twelve months subscription period. You will receive two "pause weeks" every six months, bundled in a two week block. The paused weeks will be added to the end of the next active subscription period, extending your subscription by two weeks for free and eliminating the need for cancelation and re-enrollment. An unused pause week-bundle can be carried over to the next half year. You cannot accrue more than four pause weeks in total. Subscribers must notify Rock Academy at least two weeks in advance via the subscription management feature in the community app.

If not announced differently, Rock Academy offers classes throughout the public school holidays (except the summer and Christmas holidays) and public holidays. If there are not enough students available to accommodate band jams, we aim to provide instrument lessons instead. This will be decided based on the actual availability of students during the respective holidays.

What happens if a student misses a class session? Please check the answer below "What happens if a student misses a class session?".

In the unlikely event that Rock Academy needs to cancel a class session we will work with the program students and their parents to find a new date that fits their schedule. Terms and conditions apply.

What happens if a student misses a class session?

In general, it's essential for the students growth as a musician, as well as for the collective progress of the band, that everyone engages consistently in our lessons.

Lessons canceled 24+ hours in advance can be made up in a group class, provided there are at least two or more students requesting a similar makeup class.

Furthermore, our students have access to online materials and videos on our community platform, allowing them to stay up to date with their studies and catch up on missed lessons from anywhere and any device.

What about longer holidays? Please check the answer above "Can I pause the subscription? What happens during public holidays?".

In the unlikely event that Rock Academy needs to cancel a class session we will work with the program students and their parents to find a new date that fits their schedule. Terms and conditions apply.
